Bow Clutch

This week is my spring break. I'm so excited to just have a chance to relax and do as I please and actually have time to sew a bit. I don't know what I was thinkin when I thought I could take 21 hours this semester, work, and STILL have time to do what I wanted. I have managed this far and I only have a month left, so I'm super excited! I was being super lazy this morning just lounging around in my pjs in bed and ran across this super adorable blog. Seriously, this girl is so adorable! She also has a super cute etsy shop. I ran across this tutorial of hers to make a bow clutch. You can find it here. Here's my final products:
messed up on the brown one a little bit but oh, well :)

diy heating pad

My job on the orthopedic floor involves a lot of heavy lifting. I am constantly picking people up, tugging, pulling etc...by the end of a 12 hour day my feet are burning and my back is achy. So I found the easiest little diy heating pad. Not to mention, if you're a woman, this can come in handy once a month! :)
All you need is:

Fabric (I just used some I had left over from a purse I made)
Rice (just the cheap white stuff)
Lavender oil or chamomile teabags (to mask the smell of the rice)

Supplies:

I used Chamomile tea and just sprinkled it in with the rice

I cut my fabric 16x8.5in

Pin it so the outsides are both facing each other

When sewing it together, leave an small opening on one of the sides

Turn your fabric right side out now...

When I got done sewing, my fabric ended up being 15 inches long, so I just started sectioning it off every three inches and drew a line in pencil on the fabric leaving about an inch at the bottom

These lines will be your guides when sewing off your sections, just stop your line about an inch from the bottom!

Once you've sewn your lines, fill 'er up!

Fun-Filled Sunday Afternoon

Today, my mom and I spent some quality time together. It started off by first going to my first bridal show and can I say how OVERWHELMING fun it was! I definitely feel like I need to get on top of planning things! But we shared good food and some good laughs. Later this evening we took a painting class at Uptown Art Uncorked (used to be SipsNstrokes and will forever be SipsNstrokes by me) and we had so much fun! And I even have a new pretty painting for my room :) Here are some pics from our evening:

Sewin' Night

My craftiness has been reduced the past week due to work and school obligations but I finally found time tonight to catch up on a project. I found the most adorable pattern for a purse/bag a few weeks ago. Well, I made one and I get compliments on it all the time, so I am slowly but surely making them for everyone that wants one. I found the pattern here . It was cheap and the website has lots of other VERY cute tutorials and patterns (there are even free ones!) Here's the bag I made. It's called The Abby Bag.

Tea and Wine

Like every other girl out there, I spend countless hours on pinterest. I'm pretty sure I've planned my life out according to things I see on there. It's so ADDICTING! :) Something I've become obsessed with lately is depression glass.  It's just so delicate and shabby chic, so I'm trying to stock up on the colors I like for my future house. So, ever so often, my mom and I will set out to our two favorite consignment shops, Seek-N-Find and Wood Stock Shop on Preston hwy, they have tons of houseware items. When we were out one day, I found a couple darling little teacups. Well, I had also found this fab idea on pinterest of making candles in teacups. Cute!
I got my candle making supplies at Hobby Lobby...fairly cheap too!
After several minutes of boiling, stirring, and pouring...voila! Finished product!

My next project was also 'pinterest' inspired. I love to unwind with a glass of wine. So, when I saw this I knew I could put my old corks to good use! A wine-cork corkboard....how fabulous! And super easy too!

2/11/2012

Stefan and I have been dating for going on 4 years. We enjoy doing lots of "country/redneck/FUN" things together. It is not uncommon for us to sit on his deck at his parent's house in the summer evenings and fish (and yes, I bait and hook my own line),  shoot our guns (of course mine is pink) or go camping with our friends. We drink beer and eat bologna sandwiches (gasp!). Don't get me wrong, I am VERY much a girly girl and love to do girly things, but I'm not afraid to get a little dirty either (God made dirt and dirt don't hurt!).

ANYWAYS....

A few weeks ago, Stefan asked me if I wanted to go to the gun range since we hadn't been in a while, of course I agreed. The next day he picked me up and we went to the gun range. He started acting strange when we were paying but I just dismissed it as he was being awkward in public and thought nothing else of it. When we got inside, I started setting up my stuff right away. I looked up and noticed we were missing the target that goes on the cardboard piece that hangs up. Stefan played it off real cool and went and got a worker and told him what we were missing. The worker told me it must've just gotten turned around when they were setting up and to push a button to make it flip back around. As soon as I pushed the button, it flipped around and I read, "Lysa, will you marry me?". It actually took a few seconds for this to process in my head because I didn't feel like it was real life. As soon as I realized I started crying, only to to turn around to find Stefan down on one knee. He had even set up a hidden photographer (bonus points for him!) I was crying and so in shock that I even forgot to say 'yes'! So, yes, I got engaged at a gun range. Think what you want, but it couldn't have been more perfect for us:)

New Adventure

I've dabbled in the whole 'blog' thing for about the past 8 months. However, being the perfectionist I am, I never felt like it was good enough to publish and post. So...I created a new one and just decided to give it my best shot! I can't wait to share my Paula Deen moments, crafting escapades and frustrations excitement of wedding planning! So bear with me, as I put my Type A personality aside and just go with the flow of this whole blogging thing :)
